How to Make the Best Kalbi Marinade

Authentic Hawaiian Korean family recipe you'll make over and over again!

I updated an old Hawaiian family recipe to become a modern day classic. This marinade yields tender ribs every time. It's a great prep-ahead dish that cooks up in minutes after marinating.

Key Ingredients for Kalbi Marinade

3/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup rice wine

2 tsp sesame oil

4 cloves garlic

4 stalks green onion

2 tsp sesame seeds

2 tblsp sugar

1/2 tsp pepper

Plus 2 Secret Ingredients!!

shredded Asian pear (or use mashed kiwi)

1/2 tsp gochugaru (Korean spice powder)

Combine all of the ingredients and then pour over your short ribs. Store in your refrigerator for 8 - 12 hours or overnight, turning occasionally to be sure all ribs are coated.

You'll see how the color of the ribs has changed after marinating - they are darker and all ready for the grill!

Look at those grill marks! Use a kitchen scissor to cut them into small pieces between the ribs. So good!
